Tina Chester: is from North-West England where she studied classical and performance techniques with various teachers. She was successful at Music Festivals and spent many happy years ‘treading the boards’ singing and performing in many different guises. These included weddings, corporate functions, operatic and theatre productions as well as guest appearances at concerts. Her main influences have been sopranos Natalie Dessay, Sumi Jo, and Cross-over singers such as Katherine Jenkins, Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban.

Teodoro de Castillo: has Italian blood in his veins and moved to Cyprus permanently when he was 16 years old. He has a professional background of modern opera, classical and musical theatre. He toured for two years with an Il Divo tribute group and has made solo appearances in many parts of Europe. His main influences are Pavarotti, Boccelli and Josh Groban. Teo and Tina have combined their musical love of the operatic, dramatic and light-hearted when forming their programmes.

Jazz Festival at Paradise Beach in Pomo

Great pleasure to share with you and announce the music program of the 16th Paradise Jazz Festival, which is well-known that is happening in beautiful Pomos Village, at Paradise Place during the weekend of Friday the 7th and Saturday the 8th of August 2015.

For this year we are happy to blend a rich program which contains 5 bands all together for both nights and an organized ‘after hours’ jazz meeting per night with Island`s best new projects, new cooperators and special quests flying from Europe and Israel. We are so proud to have them all with us. A great company! All together musically it is a variety of different styles not to be missed.

More specific on Friday the 7th the festival will start on 9.30pm in celebrating mood with the percussion group ‘Batukinio’, a band which was formed in 2009 by the renowned percussionist and drummer Rodos Panagiotou and has so far 35 members. The timbres of the group are based in the Afro- Brazilian music such as Samba Batucada and Samba Reggae. For the first time the Batukinio appeared on the opening of the games of Small States of Europe which took place in Cyprus in June 2009. Later presented at Football Awards of Antenna, in the Jazz Festival in Ayia Napa, in Ayia Napa Medieval Festival, at Rally of Cyprus in Nicosia, at the 1st Marathon, at the Limassol Carnival 2010 and 2011 and as well as other cultural events such as a surprise number in Paradise Jazz Festival few years ago.. Great to have the back!

We will continue on 10.30pm with the ‘Andreas Rodosthenous Ethnic Jazz Ensemble’ which was formed for the purpose of the recording of his first personal work of original compositions with the title ‘Simplicity’. In the context of a long musical journey, traveling and experiences, what emerged are musical compositions influenced by varied and heterogeneous stimuli. The input of the musicians of course being the most important influence, since each one of them is free to incorporate their own authentic ideas in the music. Essentially that is where the beauty of interactive music and improvisation lies.
The compositions that will be heard on our festival from Andreas first personal recording, carry sounds that constantly convey memories, tunes and melodies from the East-West and vice versa, both harmonically and rhythmically.
Band members: Andreas Rodosthenous-fretless electric bass, Giorgos Morfitis-piano, Stelios Xydias-drums, Alkis Agathokleous-Ney.

On 11.30pm we will present a quartet which the 3/4 members of it will appear for first time in our Jazz Festival. We are talking about ‘The Other Quartet’ of Omiros Miltiadous (drums) and Antreas Yerolatsitis (guitar). They will fly to Cyprus for joining our Festival from Netherlands together with the Italian baritone and soprano saxophonist Emilio Noonzio Tritto. All three young jazz musicians are studding at the Royal Conservatory of Hague. The band is siding Andreas Rodosthenous on electric bass.
‘The Other Quartet’ mostly plays music from the American song book with their own arrangements and influenced by other genres of music like rock, funk, etc. They also started playing their own music composed by Emilio Noonzio Tritto.

Friday`s program (and Saturday`s) will end by ‘After Hours jazz meeting’, something like an organized jam session from selected attendees musicians who will be there all around Paradise Place to celebrate with us the 16th Paradise Jazz Festival!

On Saturday the 8th of August we will start the night on 9.30pm with ‘Ioannis Vafeas Project’, a relatively new band which was formed last year and did it's first appearances around the island just recently. The philosophy behind this band is to cover music from straight ahead jazz to ethnic and more contemporary music. In order to achieve that, the band changes instrumentation as well as musicians. In it`s short life the Ioannis Vafeas Project has appeared as a sextet, as a quartet and now for the Paradise Jazz Festival will perform as a trio. More specific the band members for the trio will be George Morfitis on the piano, Michael Messios on the bass and Ioannis Vafeas on the drums looking towards the contemporary sounds of today...Future plans for the Project (beyond live performing) include the recording of their first cd which will be released by the end of this year. The band will be recording original music composed by New York saxophonist, Chris Byars.

Our next theme, which will start around 11.00pm and will close up the official program for this year`s festival, is the Meeting Point Jazz Quartet. Since the year 2000, Irinaeos Koullouras, George Koulas and Ofer Ganor have been meeting in Cyprus or abroad playing in various places and festivals. Each of them brings their own different background in original compositions that are based on modern jazz music. They have been sharing their mature, experienced and highly energetic music for last 15 years, each time bringing a special guest in their band. This time at the 16th Paradise Jazz Festival they will play with well known saxophone player Asaf Yuria who lives and works in New York where he is enjoying a successful career. The quartet deserves to be the highlight of our festival and is promising a magnificent live jazz performance on stage! …

The Festival will end as we mentioned above with the ‘After Hours jazz meeting’

We keep the price of the admission in a considering low price, for your convenience like last year, on €10 per night.

We would like to thank you in advance for your contribution and your support. We also like to special thank all the Anonymous who they offer from their hart all sorts of services to make this possible. `Couse they Love It!
